Becoming A Writer

If you want to start writing, then WRITE. You don’t need anyone’s permission or approval whether its tweets, blog, facebook posts, IG caption Doesn’t matter, just go for it. You’ll only get better through continuous practice.

And if you have hopes of having an audience, commit to writing being a long game. That could be years away. Writing is NOT a reliable way to make $$, at all. You do this because you love it, not because it pays well (if it ever pays).

For perspective, my first “writing” where anyone read anything I wrote was my writing facebook posts in 2012. Unlike most people, I treated it like a blog and wrote long form mainly about my experiences and lessons training people.

That was 2012. 2013, I started writing a column on a popular fitness website elitefts. You can find my writings here. End of 2013, I got my first paid article for a magazine.

Up until starting my own email list in 2016, writing was never a primary source of income.

Hell, up until 2018, that was the first year that I can say I made legit $$ from writing.

  • 2013
  • 2014
  • 2015
  • 2016
  • 2017

So that took 6 years.

And people think that I exploded overnight on an insane trajectory. I’ve been putting in work at this for awhile. Lesson for all of you – PATIENCE.

Also, if you’re not writing day in, day out, and writing for an audience, You’re not a writer. You’re someone that has a journal.

If you desire to write and prosper from it, bleed on that metaphorical page every day.
