I don’t know why this exercise isn’t more popular. It’s stable, easily customized, you can move lots of weight, and it’s a great strength and mass builder. Yet I rarely see it done in gyms.
Maybe it’s because there is still stigma over using the smith machine. Regardless, if you want to press heavy weights and minimize wear and tear on the shoulders, this is is a great way to do it.
I personally like to do higher reps on this movement, the 9-15 rep range, but you could of course go lower if you wanted to, or higher.
